At RMPA we promote the fundamental British Values of democracy, individual liberty, mutual respect, the rule of law and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. We do this to support the children to learn the important attributes that will help them to be citizens who make a difference in their communities now and in the future.

We teach about British Values in different ways; in the classroom, in assemblies, during playtimes. There are clear links between these values and our own Make a Difference values.

Our elections for Head and Deputy Head Children

Each year, all the children in school are given the opportunity to vote for their Deputy Head children  who are in Year 5. These are very important positions of responsibility as the Deputy Head children become our head children once they enter Year 6.

Any Year 5 child can nominate themself to become a Deputy Head child. They create posters to show their nomination and to share the qualities they have which they believe will make them good student leaders. Following this, each candidate writes and delivers a speech to the whole school to try to persuade children to vote for them. An anonymous vote is carried out in every classroom and the votes are counted. The winning candidates are announced to everyone in assembly.

What our candidates said

Lilian

I want to be Deputy Head girl because I like helping people and organising things. I think that I would be a great role model. I want to make sure that every single pupil has an enjoyable education at school. I am approachable and that means I can help with problems. A problem shared is a problem halved.

Isaac

As deputy head boy I will find you if you’re upset. You can tell me your problems and I will try an solve them. I will make school more environmentally friendly. I will do this by trying to reduce wasted paper, turning lights off and set up recycling bins around the school. You should vote for me because I care about our environment and our school hall. I hate bullying and I will stand up for what is right and you.

Phoebe

This gal is extremely funny. I will help you as best as I can if you’re stuck. I’m kind and brave. If you want to play with me, just ask.

Eliza

I am kind, caring, friendly, trustworthy, creative, sassy and very funny. I try to be the best that I can be everyday. I follow the school rules and try to demonstrate the values inside and outside of school. Everyday I try to show Teamwork, Compassion, Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Focus. If everybody, everywhere did the same, the world would be a better place. I want the school to be the very best it can be.

Jessica B

I am kind and caring. I show all of our Make a Difference values and I love this school and all of you. I hate bullying and being unkind and I wish for everyone here a bright future. I will make sure this school will be the best and most wondrous.

I realise that being Deputy Head boy isn’t about being better than anyone else, it’s about representing the school with honesty and respect. I have the compassion to listen, the ability to work hard even in a team. I’m also responsible, have focus and the resilience to be my best self. ‘I cannot make our days longer, so I try to make them better.’

Myah

I am all the things you need in school. I am kind, caring, helpful and honest. I will be there in any situation that you are in. I am willing to do anything to help people if it means happiness. I am motivated, ambitious, nurturing and I love helping people.

Lola

I like to help people in the community like with Food Banks, litter picking and recycling. In school I would help people if they were sad, feeling lonely, bullied or had lost something like a jumper or cardigan. I could also help other children with their work.

Isabel

I might be small but I have lots of energy and enthusiasm and ready to work to make Robert Mellors a better place. I am friendly and a good listener. I think it is important to respect people. I am very compassionate and I show teamwork to keep school wonderful. I want the job because it is an important role and it would push me to do more. It would be a very big achievement and if I got the job I would make ours the best school.

James

Why would I be a good choice for Deputy Head boy? Will I get my inspiration from my favourite superheroes. I think we can all be;

  • As smart as Iron Man
  • As mighty as Thor
  • As incredible as Hulk
  • As brave as Captain America
  • As amazing as Spiderman

And as said by Wonder Woman, ‘No matter how small an act of kindness, generosity or simple positivity you put out in the world, IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!’

I promise to make our school a happy place, where everyone’s opinions matter, everyone has a friend to play with and nobody is left out.

Ariyah

I believe I should be chosen for Deputy Head girl because I am helpful and a kind, caring friend. I also love to read and draw. I follow school rules and I am trustworthy with jobs. I try my best at everything that’s thrown in front of me.
